2018 Platinum Haynes Creek Syrah
Winemaking takes an elegant approach to this wine, similar to that of our Platinum Pinot Noirs. It is wild fermented with 25%
whole bunch to send the wine in a floral, spicy direction. One percent whole bunch Viognier is added to fix a bit of colour and lift
aromatics. We aged on lees for over a year in large oak puncheons.
Above average growing degree days in the spring contributed to an early budbreak. Cooler days and evenings arrived in August, which slowed down the ripening of the grapes and allowed for greater flavour development while retaining freshness and acidity.
A combination of blackberries, blueberries, and black pepper on the nose, with classic notes of violet that Haynes Creek is known for. On the palate the wine is medium weight with soft tannins and great complexity. Given the cooler 2018 vintage, this wine has great elegance and balance while still showing good fruit intensity.
